LICHT, RUIMTE EN HARMONIE – THE ARTIST JOZEF POSENAER 1876-1935
In 2014, the MTVP Museum Domburg organised an exhibition around the four Belgian artists who fled the violence of war in their country and found a temporary home in Domburg and the surrounding area to find a temporary homeland. Jozef Posenaer was one of them. To commemorate the 90th anniversary of his death, the museum presents this summer wfrom 26 May to 5 October 2025, the museum presents a special exhibition around his life and work.
During his stay in Domburg and painted many quiet and atmospheric corners. One gets the impression that he felt secure in Zeeland. The family was warmly welcomed there and part of the community for several years. Friendly contacts are still there today, a century later.
The exhibition shows some 40 works, most of them from Domburg and its surroundings. Each of them tells a story and conjures up a piece of Walcheren’s history. The Zeeland works are framed by some Antwerp, Amsterdam and Brabant paintings. Posenaer was a craftsman. His works are balanced in composition and have a calm, mostly peaceful and traditional look.
