Ferch

Around the lakes south of Berlin, Germany

Famous neighbours on the lake

Fishermen’s village Ferch is a tiny town on the southwestern end of Lake Schwielowsee, which kept its cute rural character into the late 20th century. An ideal outdoor spot for an artists’ colony, which is why a colony of painters settled in Ferch. The village’s church, built in 1635, is still used as an art exhibition gallery. In the next village of Caputh, Albert Einstein had his summer house, from which he visited the lake often on one of his sailing trips.
