Roland Darjes creates sculptures and installations between Shanghai and Worpswede. His cousin Lia Darjes is a photographer and lives and works in Berlin.
Art and culture always had a fix place in the family of the two artists - even in the third generation after Paula Modersohn-Becker, the great-great-aunt shines from afar. Growing up with the stories and images of the unusual painter, they were unconditionally supported by their parents to develop themselves creatively, even when it came to choosing a career. Whether this species-affinity is now "nature or nurture" remains open.
The two artists and their family Paula Modersohn-Becker owe not only this idealistic heritage: the Worpswede house, where Roland Darjes grew up and where Lia Darjes spent all weekends and summers of her childhood and youth, changed under the direction of the unfortunately For decades, actress Hille Darjes and her sister Helga Darjes have become a special place where theater, art and everyday life are discussed and lived in a large court community.
When the old half-timbered house in the moor threatened to sink a few years ago, it could only be saved by selling Paula Modersohn-Becker's pictures. The painter, who was hardly recognized during her lifetime, enabled her descendants to continue her intellectual heritage beyond death: cultural and artistic creation in Worpswede.
