Life and Light of Edmond Verstraeten (1870-1956)
Until June 9th2019
Emile Van Dorenmuseum
Henri Decleenestraat 21, Genk
Edmond Verstraeten came to Genk the first time during his training in the art class of Joseph Coosemans (1828-1904). There he met Emile Van Doren and they became friends.
In the exhibition the oeuvres of Verstraeten and Van Doren enter into dialogue with each other. Edmond Verstraeten used a colorful palette. His work is clearly influenced by Emile Claus (1849-1924) and bears the marks of impressionism and pointillism. The most important subject of his often monumental paintings is the landscape around his home town, Waasmunster. Van Doren’s use of color is refined. His works are – more than these by Verstraeten, poetic, romantic and melancholic.
