August 30th - October 4th 2020
Galerie Altes Rathaus
Bergstraße 1, 27726 Worpswede
From August 30th to October 4th, 2020 the gallery Altes Rathaus Worpswede will show the late work of the artist Martina Werner. In 2016 and 2017, in the last two years of her life, she concentrated on painting. After her decades of life's work, Señor Mendoza and the C-Tribe, last seen in 2014 in the Galerie Altes Rathaus, she embarked on a new artistic journey.
The current exhibition was planned by the recipient of the special award for the Paula Modersohn Becker Prize 2014 herself.
The focus is on the sketchbook The River Kwai Bridge with an abundance of narrow-format painterly notes with ciphers from landscape painting and the series Wanderlust with classic horizontal division as in landscape photography and Wanderlust series Blue with strong colors, swinging lines and complex interwoven figures. The artist gave the large landscape formats fictional postcard titles such as Abendhimmel near Wacken in August or a school trip to the Drachenfels near Königswinter or a visit to the Albertina museum in Vienna, 1st district. She devoted an ironic footnote to her connection between language and the visual arts, which is characteristic of her entire oeuvre.
Safe the date!
At the finissage on October 4th, 2020, the Bremen artist and filmmaker Monika B. Beyer will be showing her film Mama eats Death - Portrait Martina Werner in the Ratsdiele Worpswede, Farmer Row 1
On this day Martina Werner would have been 91 years old.
