Een zucht naar meer lucht
Een zucht naar meer lucht tells the often-forgotten story of women who, with brush and palette, expanded their own horizons. While society confined them to small roles and quiet rooms, they painted outdoors, beneath an open sky, helping to shape an art movement that longed for freedom.
Louise Héger captured this yearning powerfully: “J’ai soif d’un grand ciel.” Their thirst for a vast sky was more than a desire for the landscape, it was a silent revolution, a quest for space to breathe and for independence.
The exhibition brings this longing to life through works by Anna Boch, Louise Héger, Euphrosine Beernaert, Marie Collart, Jenny Montigny, and Anna De Weert, enriched with contributions from kindred spirits in Oosterbeek and women’s voices in art from later generations up to today.
