Harbours and harbour towns / Havens en Havenstadjes
Retrospective exhibition of watercolours from the past decade
Exhibition of Bert Welmers
The artist explains:
‘In recent years I have been painting predominantly in oils. Every now and then, usually when travelling, I also work with watercolour.
Always I paint ‘en plein air’, figuratively, not too literally, with a loose touch. Painting in situ is a wonderful thing. You become part of the place, you see the movements in the little harbour, you hear the seagulls squawk and you smell the fish. And every now and then a curious fern guest comes for a chat.
I am delighted to be able to organise a retrospective of watercolours of my favourite subject: harbours and harbour towns in the DUNAatelier in Katwijk.
The watercolours were painted here and there in the Netherlands and also in Scotland, France, Spain and Italy. I am exhibiting 28 watercolours in three sizes: 30 x 40 cm, 40 x 55 cm and 50 x 65 cm.’
In the basement is simultaneously the sales exhibition of the Kunstvereeniging Katwijk Foundation’s collection. This collection consists of donated works by the artists who give a painting as thanks after participating in the annual event ‘Katwijk En Plein Air, painting by the sea’. The proceeds can be used to finance running costs.
The DUNAatelier is located near the Vuurbaak, Boulevard Zeezijde 31, 2225 BB in Katwijk and is open on Friday, Sat.
