Magical moments with squeegee and spatula I Magische Momente mit Spatel und Rakel
Squeegee and spatula are the main painting tools used by Bremen artist Gisela Claußen. She only uses a brush for the underpaints, with which she applies colours in broad strokes. Before she starts painting, she develops the colours, underpaints and shapes of her paintings, which are defined by geometric forms. With her acrylic paintings, she remains in the abstract realm and avoids allusions to the figurative. Only colour and form move Gisela Claußen.
Gisela Claußen’s colour palette is dominated by her favourite colours red, orange, pink, mint and turquoise; but now also more often black and white. Her paintings vibrate in the different layers of colour that she applies on top of each other in glazes. The lower layers of colour shine through again and again, the upper layers of colour experience breaks, so that the light can shine through as if through different atmospheric layers. Her colourful abstractions stimulate the imagination in a magical way and inspire the viewer to personal interpretations of the pictures.
