‘Nidden artists‘ colony’ | Carl Knauf (1893-1944)
On Friday, 20 September 2024 at 11 a.m., a personal exhibition by the late Impressionist painter Carl Knauf with works related to the Nidden artists’ colony will open for the first time at the Kunstkaten Ahrenshoop.
Through euroart, the association of European artists‘ colonies, which is celebrating its 30th anniversary this year, Ahrenshoop is connected to various artists’ colonies.
In co-operation with the Ahrenshoop Art Museum, the Kunstkaten is dedicating itself to the Nidden artists’ colony and is showing a personal exhibition of the late Impressionist landscape painter Carl Knauf for the first time.
He studied at the Düsseldorf Art Academy and lived in Nidden from 1931 until his death in 1944. Landscape, water and the interplay of light are characteristic of his work, which allows the unique natural world to take full effect without the human figure in the picture. The dunes, lagoon and spa boats are depicted with great intensity and reveal Knauf’s love of the East Prussian landscape.
