20 – Years of Friends and Supporters of the Kunstmuseum Schwaan
An exhibition at the Kunstmuseum, which can be seen from 24 September, looks back on 20 years of association work and support for the Kunstmuseum. Over the past two decades, the members of the association have shaped the life of the association with various activities and events, thereby supporting the museum in its work.
In addition to several purchases of paintings, watercolours and sculptures, an integral part of our work is the continuation of the idea of the artists’ colonies. Through plein airs with professional artists from Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, Canada, Lithuania and Poland, the Schwaan Artists’ Colony has become known far beyond our borders. A special concern of the association is its work with young people. Immediately after its founding, a cooperation was established with the advanced course of the Friderico- Francisceum Gymnasium zu Bad Doberan, which continues successfully to this day. Pupils from the grammar school visit Schwaan for a day to walk in the footsteps of the former colonists. In May, the time had come again, and the pupils chose motifs themselves during a tour, made sketches or already applied acrylic and first colours to the painting board. The works were then completed in class. The excursion to Schwaan has become a fixed part of the grading.
In addition to the paintings, watercolours and prints that will be shown in the exhibition from 24 September, visitors can also admire the pupils’ works. The three best works will be awarded prizes by the association on 28 September at 5 pm in the museum.
