Saluti da Capri!
An island between idyll and tourism/ eine Insel zwischen Idylle und Tourismus
17 September 2022 – 12 March 2023
Neue Galerie, Dachau
The picturesque island of Capri in the Gulf of Naples opened up to tourism in the 19th century, which also brought many artists to the island. Today, the Mediterranean island is one of the most popular holiday destinations in Italy and is overrun by visitors from all over the world in summer. At peak times, about 45,000 tourists cross from Naples every day, making it impossible to enjoy the romantic spots undisturbed. But after the day visitors have left, there are still quiet places and in the winter months the inhabitants are largely among themselves. The exhibition shows different sides of the island and also allows a look behind the scenes of tourism. With photographs, sculptures and a sound installation by Enrico Desiderio, Gianluca Federico, Bruno Flavio, Klaus Frahm and Raffaela Mariniello.
