The Second Glance / der zweite Blick
Helga Neuber moved with her family from Halle (Saale) to Oldenburg at the age of 10. She learned to swim and, in 1953, at just 16, won the German Championship in backstroke. Between then and 1964, she claimed 26 more national titles, set 40 German records, and competed in 27 international matches. She also achieved top placements at the European Championships (Turin 1954 and Budapest 1958) and at the Olympic Games in Melbourne (1956), Rome (1960), and Tokyo (1964).
After completing her art studies in 1961 and working as a graphic designer until 1967, Helga Neuber became a member of BBK Oldenburg in 1996. Since then, she participated in around five art exhibitions annually, both in Germany and abroad, and won several awards for her remarkable paintings, installations, and photographs.
From 1972 until her death in 2018, Helga Neuber lived with her husband, Götz Neuber, and their three children in Dötlingen-Klattenhof.
With this retrospective, her children now offer an insight into over 30 years of her artistic work. They will also be present during opening hours.
