Traces of time. Alexander Dettmar – Painting I Zeitspuren. Alexander Dettmar – Malerei

From his earliest youth, Barlach Prize winner Alexander Dettmar has artistically processed the beauty and power of Worpswede. He is fascinated by houses that have a story to tell, like individual corporeal beings. His work often revolves around typical North German architecture. He says of himself: ‘Brick is in my blood.

After many successes in the metropolises of the world, the painter is repeatedly drawn back to his homeland around Worpswede and the Teufelsmoor.

From November to March, the Worpsweder Kunsthalle is showing selected works that – with their powerful painterly power – span the arc between Worpswede and Paris; an arc that was already significant for the first generation of Worpswede artists, above all for Paula Modersohn-Becker, Otto Modersohn, Bernhard Hoetger and the poet Rainer Maria Rilke.

Reduced in form and colour, at peace with itself, Alexander Dettmar’s art touches the senses. His paintings are like answers to the search for peace and simplicity in the world.
