Vera Schwelgin (*1943) – ‘My paths made of sand II’ (Painting and graphics) / Vera Schwelgin (*1943) – „Meine Wege aus Sand II“
Vera Schwelgin was born in Lithuania and lived for many years in Mecklenburg, where she graduated from high school and completed a scientific and technical degree followed by work in the agricultural sector in Mecklenburg. From 1969-74 she studied at the Dresden Academy of Fine Arts (diploma). Vera Schwelgin then lived as a freelance painter/graphic artist in Hirschburg near Rostock until 1986 and then moved to Berlin/West with her husband, the artist Wolfgang Reinke, where she lives and works today.
The human figure in paintings and woodcuts often reflects a great longing in her work. Figures hold and support each other or stand alone – often in connection with the sea. With a sensitive eye for our inner selves, Vera Schwelgin gives her art a poetry that is worth exploring.
