In the Circle of Artists from the Karkonosze Artists’ Colony: Friedrich Iwan

The Karkonoskie Museum in Jelenia Góra invites you to the opening of its new special exhibition, “In the Circle of Artists from the Karkonosze Artists’ Colony: Friedrich Iwan” on February 13, 2026, at 5:00 p.m.

The exhibition is part of a project that launches a series of presentations introducing the phenomenon of the artists’ colony in the Karkonosze Mountains in the early 20th century and its creators. It shows this circle as an important symbol connecting Polish and German culture. As a member of the European Association of Artists’ Colonies euroart, our museum has once again taken on the task of presenting art in the Karkonosze Mountains in a broader European context.
The exhibition features over 300 works by Friedrich Iwan, including prints, watercolors, oil paintings, and memorabilia from the artist’s collections at the Karkonosze Museum, the Silesian Museum in Görlitz, and private collections.

During the vernissage on February 13, there will be a meeting with the artist’s grandson, Peter Iwan. He will provide insights into the private life of Friedrich Iwan based on personal family memories. The exhibition is accompanied by a package of educational and outreach programs for various target groups from Poland and Germany. The project undoubtedly contributes to the popularization of the cultural landscape of the Karkonosze region in Poland, Germany, and the Czech Republic.
