You think we were different.
Photographs from East and West from 1945 to 1989

This is the first time the Kunstmuseum has presented a project focusing on artistic photography. The concept was conceived and curated by Petra Göllnitz, a long-standing picture editor first at “Magazin” and later at “Stern”.

The exhibition explores the differences, overlaps, transitions and connections between German biographies east and west of the former inner-German border. It is a journey through time full of humour, humanity and a touch of melancholy. The photographs and themes make no historical claims, nor do they claim to be exhaustive. However, they offer unexpected and quirky insights into life in East and West Germany.
