Between the worlds – Bettina Heinen-Ayech (1937 – 2020) / Zwischen den Welten
The most important painter of the Solingen artists’ colony, Bettina Heinen-Ayech, was considered a child prodigy. She sold her first painting at the age of 13 and accompanied the artists of the “Black House” from Solingen throughout Europe. In Egypt in the 1960s, she got to know the glistening sun of the south. She decided to move the center of her life to North Africa, to her Algerian husband’s home in Guelma in eastern Algeria, a small town in the Atlas Mountains. In the 60 years of her Algerian career, she became a legend, known throughout the country as “Madame Bettina”. Through her regular stays in the Solingen artists’ colony, however, the connection to her roots always remained.
Let yourself be enchanted by an artistic journey between worlds!
The exhibition is organized in cooperation with the Bettina Heinen-Ayech Foundation.
