Moret-sur-Loing

On the banks of the waters of the Loing, France

Medieval views captured by many Impressionists

Formerly a walled town, the picturesque medieval village and artists’ colony of Moret-sur-Loing inspired many impressionist artists and painters, such as Alfred Sisley, who spent the last twenty years of his life there. The village, located on the edge of the Fontainebleau forest and on the banks of the peaceful waters of the Loing, represents a particularly photogenic spot. From the old bridge or from the right bank of the Loing, the wonderful views were often portrayed by the artists in town.

A walk called In the footsteps of Sisley allows you to admire the places where the famous English painter painted his works. Want to see the view that Sisley painted? Walk across the bridge and take the road on the left towards the Musée du Vélo (Bike Museum). Then you will see a green space along the river, after Bistrot de Loing. A beautiful view upon the medieval town center of this artists’ colony.
