Willingshausen PDF

The Schwälmer Willingshäuser Malerkolonie is the oldest artists' colony in Europe. The subjects dedicated to the art of home in Willingshausen were taken up in 1824 by Gerhardt Wilhelm von Reutern and Ludwig Emil Grimm in 1824 before the Barbizon painters' colony at Fontainebleau, founded in 1830. Willingshausen was the study place of international artists and contributed to the popularity of the Schwalm costumes.
