Artists’ Colony Katwijk

In the second half of the 19th century, Katwijk on the Dutch North Sea coast developed into a major artists’ colony. The focus of these atmospheric, often large-format paintings lies less on the landscape than on the people themselves, so that the works convey a vivid and striking sense of their era.

In collaboration with the Museum Katwijk and the Kunstkaten Ahrenshoop, the Kunstmuseum is showing around 80 works by painters from Germany and abroad who found a wealth of inspiring subjects in Katwijk.
