Bettina Heinen-Ayech at ART INNSBRUCK
Bettina Heinen-Ayech Honoured with a Museum-Style Special Exhibition at ART INNSBRUCK.
The German-Algerian painter Bettina Heinen-Ayech (1937–2020), closely associated with the Solingen Artists’ Colony, is receiving a further international tribute: on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the international art fair ART INNSBRUCK, a special museum-style exhibition dedicated to her work will be presented from 23 to 25 October 2026.
The non-commercial presentation places Bettina Heinen-Ayech’s artistic oeuvre at its centre and traces her remarkable life between Germany and Algeria. Selected works from different periods of her career will illustrate her intensive engagement with landscape, light and colour, as well as the distinctive connection between European and North African worlds that characterises her art.
Bettina Heinen-Ayech grew up in the so-called “Black House” in Solingen, which for decades served as an important meeting place for artists and became a central location of the Solingen Artists’ Colony. Following her academic training and extensive travels, she settled in Algeria in 1963. From there, she developed a substantial body of work over almost six decades, while remaining closely connected throughout her life to her native city of Solingen and the Black House.
The museum-style special exhibition at ART INNSBRUCK places Bettina Heinen-Ayech’s work within an international context and brings renewed attention to an artist whose life and oeuvre were profoundly shaped by encounters between different countries and cultures.
The special exhibition will take place from 23 to 25 October 2026 as part of the 30th ART INNSBRUCK and will be presented by the Bettina Heinen-Ayech Foundation – Foundation for Art, Culture and International Dialogue.
