“Coastlines” – Manfred Pietsch (1936–2015)
Painting, Prints, Watercolors, Collages
On Sunday, 10 May at 11:00 a.m., a solo exhibition of works by the painter and graphic artist Manfred Pietsch will open at the Kunstkaten Ahrenshoop.
After being displaced from Silesia, Manfred Pietsch moved to Annahütte in Lower Lusatia. From 1956 to 1960 he studied civil engineering at the Technical University of Dresden, where he met Ernst Hassebrauk, who became his mentor and teacher. While working as a graduate engineer in institutions in Berlin, Pietsch simultaneously completed evening studies at the Berlin-Weißensee School of Art. Harald Metzkes and Dieter Goltzsche became important artistic companions. From 1977 onward, he lived and worked as a freelance artist in Berlin.
His joy in experimenting with form, color, and material led him to a wide range of techniques, with watercolor, oil painting, and printmaking forming the core of his work. His oeuvre includes landscapes, cityscapes, figurative compositions, mythological themes, and abstract forms.
The landscapes of Fischland-Darß and Hiddensee on display at the Kunstkaten are compelling for their intense colors and their play of light on land and water.
