A four-part European art project organised by Malwerk Oberhausen, Germany, in collaboration with the artists’ association Murnau e.V. Tusculum, Germany, and ARTISTS IN MOTION (AiM)
The exhibition accompanies symposia on the dynamics of European politics and the significance and diversity of European culture, offering an excellent opportunity for dialogue between policymakers and artists.

This participatory project presents collaborative works created by artists from several EU countries in 2025 and 2026, alongside a book featuring all exhibited works.

BIRDS DON’T STOP AT BORDERS
Art can challenge the dominant narratives and stereotypes surrounding migration, revealing it to be far more complex than a simple “us versus them” divide. With this series, AiM documents the diversity of immigrant societies through edited photographs taken at the Lithuanian-Russian border near the Curonian Spit.

SHIFTING & DRIFTING HORIZONS
This series explores the ability to adopt unfamiliar perspectives. Horizon images submitted by the artists were shifted vertically by Wim Scheere (AiM) into poetic collages, then extended by other artists with their own contributions.

CROSSING BORDERS
2026 marks the 75th anniversary of the Geneva Refugee Convention. In the tradition of blackout poetry, printed texts were artistically reworked to mark the occasion. Alongside this, “Serpentines” interprets the social relevance of crossing borders: paths worked into abstracted maps are arranged side by side to form.
