ERIC PERATHONER

Ten years after his exhibition in the town museum of Klausen, Eric Perathoner’s exhibition “Art in the Old Town” offers a comprehensive overview of his artistic work at 33 locations in the historic center of Klausen.
His art belongs to the new form of expression of the “Val Gardena sculpting tradition”, which follows its own original path between innovation and traditional craftsmanship. With technical skill, rigor and masterful precision, Eric Perathoner creates sculptures from lime, Swiss stone pine and chestnut in his studio not far from the Panidersattel. He also experiments with various materials such as plaster bandages, larch needles, acrylic paints, iron and tar.
To give voice to his poetic expressiveness, he uses a precise and condensed language, but his focus on the human figure is never reduced to the body and its physicality alone. His stylized figures are the result of formal research that dispenses with the superfluous. Simplicity characterizes his artistic language.
Eric Perathoner creates works of great formal elegance that are in many ways reminiscent of Egyptian and pre-Renaissance art. His sculptures are an ode to silence; they invite us to listen to our inner voice. The person depicted looks “into the distance”, pointing the way into the unknown and suggesting unusual aspects of life. The artist takes the viewer by the hand
