“Landscape as Memory”
From the etching work of Gerenot Richter
Gerenot Richter (1926–1991) was a master of etching. His body of work also includes a wide range of drawings, watercolors, pastels, and paintings. The depth of meaning in his allegorical imagery, combined with his technical sophistication, makes his printmaking oeuvre stand out and places Richter within a tradition of renowned etchers and engravers since the Renaissance, such as Albrecht Dürer, Carl Wilhelm Kolbe the Elder, and Horst Janssen.
A donation from the artist’s estate provided the impetus for this exhibition marking the 100th anniversary of his birth, with a focus on motifs from the Baltic Sea.
