Hans Kinder (1900–1986) – In Motion – Celebrating his 125th Birthday in coorperation with the Galerie Alte Schule

On Thursday, 7 August at 6 p.m., an exhibition of Hans Kinder’s work will be shown at the Kunstkaten Ahrenshoop. The occasion is the 125th birthday of the Dresden artist.
The exhibition project is being run in cooperation with the Alte Schule Ahrenshoop gallery, which will open its exhibition section ‘In Bewegung II – Hans Kinder und Freunde’ (In Motion II – Hans Kinder and Friends) on 16 August at 7 p.m. on the occasion of the Art Night.
For almost 30 years, Hans Kinder from Dresden had his summer residence in a painter’s cottage on Grenzweg in Ahrenshoop. The diverse landscape between the sea and the Bodden provided plenty of inspiration that enriched his work. The exchange with a fine circle of artist friends in the village was stimulating. He inspired numerous artists of subsequent generations.
The figure and its movement as a whole is a central theme in Hans Kinder’s oeuvre, both in his drawings and in his paintings. He was inspired by his encounter with Pablo Picasso during his stay in Paris. He was also inspired by a performance by the French mime artist Marcel Marceau in 1954, which prompted Hans Kinder to engage intensively with movement sequences, which are captured in his work to the point of abstraction. These impressions are immortalised in Hans Kinder’s extensive ‘Marceau Cycle’, among other works.
