Into the deep / Greta Rief Etchings
Since 1987, Greta Rief has pursued the art of etching alongside her painting practice. The title Into the Deep refers on one level to the technique of intaglio printing, while on another it offers insight into the breadth and diversity of Greta Rief’s graphic work.
The exhibition’s central focus is her sustained engagement with themes and motif series. In the series Ein ganzes Jahr (A Whole Year), spanning November 2024 to November 2025, the distinctive qualities of each month are rendered in relation to personal experience. The four-part series Raunacht ventures beyond the boundaries of the everyday world into the realm of the otherworldly.
Greta Rief’s mastery of the etching needle extends beyond mere subject matter, capturing a concentrated engagement with both the visible and the invisible.
The exhibition makes the expressive power of contemporary printmaking palpable.
