LOOK.POINT. What looks tell / BLICK.PUNKT. Was Blicke erzählen
A look says more than a thousand words: What does it reveal about the person looking? And what does it trigger in the viewer? The exhibition demonstrates how much gazes affect us not only in real life but also in works of art, what emotions they release and how multi-layered their effect is. Gazes can observe, scrutinise and focus on a particular action or situation; they can be tender, teasing or pining, enquiring, questioning or communicative. They can also provide an impetus to reflect on empathy, respect and different perspectives and lead us to question our own views beyond the edge of the picture.
Works of art from the Gemäldegalerie’s collection, supplemented by high-calibre loans, show different facets of these ways of looking that inspire reflection and tell stories.
