Surrounded by the Tiburtini, Ruffi and Simbruini mountains, and also located at an altitude of about 600 metres, Olevano Romano is famouse for the beauty of its landscapeand its nature, wich made it an irresistible attraction for European artists since the end of the eighteenth century.
Also known for its excellent production of oil and wine, Olevano Romano is today a town full of life and cultural initiatives. There are many historical-artistic sites to visit: the cyclopean walls (recently restored and dating back to the 8th century BC), the historic center with the ancient Palazzo Colonna (now a private residence of Marcucci family), the small Church of Santa Maria di Corte and the suggestive tower (painted several times by artists and today a symbol of the town) and the many religious buildings rich in history, such as the Churc of San Rocco which houses the remains of the German artist Franz Theobald Horny (Weimar, 1798 – Olevano Romano, 1824).
Amoung the most important institutions that bear witness to the artistic history of Olevano Romano, we find the Civic Museum of Art “Domenico Riccardi”.
