Works from the LARS Collection
The Skagen Artists’ Colony is the best-known artists’ colony in Denmark. Its main period of flourishing was in the 1880s and 1890s. Artists gathered at Brøndums Hotel. The most famous among them include Anna Ancher, Michael Ancher, Oscar Björck, Holger Drachmann, Viggo Johansen, Christian Krogh, P. S. Krøyer, Carl Locher, and Laurits Tuxen.
The LARS Collection is a private collection of a German couple with a strong interest in Danish art of the late 19th century. The name “LARS Collection” is formed from the initials of various artists, some of whom are featured in this exhibition.
