Between splendor of color and pain of the soul – The expressive work of the artist Jeane Flieser / Zwischen Farbenpracht und Seelenschmerz – Das expressive Werk der Künstlerin Jeane Flieser
The artist Jeane Flieser (1912-2007) is honored with a solo exhibition. Her expressive works bear witness to her fractured biography. She was banned from studying during the Nazi regime and was only able to continue her training as a painter after it ended.
Jeane Flieser’s artistic work was diverse and varied: she worked as a painter, draughtswoman, graphic artist and textile artist. Jeane Flieser created oil paintings, watercolours, etchings and drawings, some of them cheerful, others with an unusually biting sense of humour. She also drew book illustrations and designed stained glass windows. In the 1960s and 1970s, the artist designed stylised tapestries for private and public spaces in Kitzeberg.
Her painterly work was orientated towards Expressionism. Since the mid-1970s, her works have been characterised by memories of the National Socialist era, of mourning, loss and destruction. A diverse and exciting exhibition awaits you, which not only invites you to look at it, but also to engage in (inner) dialogue.
Her paintings and prints are an expression of her artistic exploration of social issues and her personal past. A catalog will be published to accompany the exhibition.
